Elephant Ear

Yum, a fresh warm, hot off the deep fryer elephant ear. Fair food at it's best. Dough, oil, sugar and more sugar. I cant believe elephant ears arent a universal food! ... And in my search for a picture (I dont know this chick, it is not me, it's a random pic I found) I discovered there is a plant called an elephant ear too, and even more people dont know what an elephant ear is. It's so much better than a funnel cake, but similar in the fried dough. I had the best elephant ear at a local tractor show a couple weeks ago. "The best" because those suckers generally sell for $6 at fairs around here, and this one was only $2!!! I should have bought 3!!! haha. And it wasnt as crispy as the one shown here, it was poofyier and ohh so yummy. Share? Did I share with Brad? Of course not! He had his own ice cream. ;) Ok ok so I did share maybe 4 bites with him. I'm drooling just looking at that picture! All our local fairs are done now though. The state fair starts tomorrow but we havent ever gone to that one, it's a bit too far for a fair we arent directly involved with. I'll have to wait til next summer to enjoy my annual elephant ear. But with as many calories and fat as those things have it's probably for the best. =)
Have a lovely day!

Mmmmmm. That looks tasty!

I think I've had something similar, but up here in Canada (haha) it was called a beaver tail - I'm sure it's the same idea though.

Darn, now I'm thinking of yummy fried food....

Hi there, I was blogging about elephant ears and some of my southern pals have don't know what they are. (omg right??) Anyways I guess they are all in love with funnel cakes and one asked me what the E-ear is.

I google image searched and came to your blog and mentioned this post in a comment so they could come and see the glory of the beautiful Elephant delicacy. (Ok AND you did a great job of describing it and I was too lazy)

So that's that, I figured you deserve an explanation if you get some off the wall trafic.

Btw - It doesn't happen very often when I happen to just stumble upon a blog - but I LIKE yours! It's nice and you're funny, I'm glad to have stumbled here.

I am from London England but travel to Indianapolis every few months with work. I have had Elephant ears and could not see what was great about them. Then again it was 01:00am in the morning and I had drunk a lot of beer. So I will hold my opinion til I eat one sober! Like the blog Farm Girl
